The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office reported that a 57-year-old Prior Lake, Minn., man was injured in a nighttime crash near Brimson on Friday.
David Maxfield was leading a small group of snowmobilers about
9:15 p.m. on the Brimson Trail, about 3/4 mile southeast of where it crosses County Road 44, when he went ahead at a high rate of speed and apparently failed to negotiate a corner, the sheriff’s office reported.
Maxfield’s snowmobile went off the right side of the trail, and he was thrown from the machine. Maxfield, who was wearing a helmet, suffered an apparent broken leg, along with shoulder and arm injuries. He was transported by Lake County Ambulance to St. Luke’s hospital. A condition report was not available Saturday.
Alcohol and excessive speed are believed to be factors in the crash, the sheriff’s office reported.
