One person and one community can make a difference

The Two Harbors Area Food Shelf was blessed with one woman’s creativity a few weeks ago. The woman, who did not want to be named, spent several days at our local Super One asking shoppers to donate $1 and one food item. She asked Super One for the space in the entrance and made some signs and handouts. Food Shelf staff were impressed and grateful for her efforts.

“I was blown away by her compassion and her initiative. Her collected contributions came in on a day when we were running short and was a very pleasant surprise,” said THAFS director, Phill Arnold.

With the generosity of Two Harbors shoppers, she accumulated 349 pounds of food items and $121.65.

Lorraine Kirsch remembered as ACS volunteer

The American Cancer Society Daffodil Days to be held March 12-15 will dedicate its Lake County campaign in honor of Lorraine Kirsch this year. Lorraine passed away Oct. 10, 2012. She was an integral and inexhaustible volunteer for many, many years and will be sorely missed by her fellow volunteers and friends.
