Two Harbors named AGE to age community
Two Harbors is joining 12 other communities in the state as a Northland Foundation Age to Age community.
The program, designed to bridge an intergenerational social chasm in rural northeastern Minnesota, was designed to bring young people and seniors together through unique activities and events. Chris Olafson Langenbrunner, the district community education director, applied for the designation and said that she was “energized” to hear that Two Harbors was selected.
The program has taken different shapes in different communities. Floodwood opened an AGES Center, where young people help older adults develop new, technology-based skills. Fond du Lac reservation has joined elders and youth through traditional Ojibwe activities.
“Our community will decide…what is going to happen in Two Harbors,” Olafson Langenbrunner said.
A community meeting will be held in March to gather input. Watch the News-Chronicle for more information.
