Minnehaha students collect coins to fight cancer

Students at Minnehaha Elementary School are collecting spare change for a good cause this month. They’re raising funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s 22nd annual Pennies for Patients program. Money raised will go toward blood cancer research and patient aid programs. Students will be collecting coins Feb. 4-22.
Through their participation, school administrators say that kids learn the value of helping others and that their donations, no matter how big or small, make a difference.
“Our student’s involvement with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society teaches them that every penny counts,” said Jody Zastera, school collection coordinator at Minnehaha Elementary School.
In 2011, schools throughout Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota raised $800,000.
