James A. “Jim” Aspoas Jr, 62, of Shilhon Road, Duluth Township, died Wednesday, Jan. 23 at his residence due to natural causes. He was born in Alexandria, Va. on Aug. 5, 1950, to James Sr. and Phyllis (Smith) Aspoas. Jim was a 1968 graduate of Duluth East High School and attended University of Minnesota- Duluth. Jim served in the U. S. Army Military Police during Vietnam. Jim was a retired millwright and a member of Local 1348. He was a member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church and was a friendly face around the Clover Valley area for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his significant other, Elizabeth “Bette” McNamara. He is survived by two sisters, Anne Aspoas and Mary E. “Beth” Aspoas, both of Duluth; a brother, W.C. “Chuck” (LouAnn) Aspoas of Duluth; nieces Jesse Aspoas and Casey (Scott) Luostari both of Duluth; a great niece, Anja; a goddaughter, Stephaine Korte of Sacramento, Calif.; and close friend Peg Twining of Duluth.
A visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until the 1 p.m. memorial service on Friday, Feb. 1, in Lakeside Presbyterian Church, 4430 McCulloch St., Duluth with Pastor Kari Jutila officiating.
