Winning photographs go on display in Two Harbors
Winning photographs from Bluefin Bay on Lake Superior's annual calendar photo contest for 2013 will be exhibited Jan. 12-Feb. 28 at the Waterfront Gallery in Two Harbors. The images were judged by Waterfront Gallery owner Val Doherty and photographer John Gregor.
Each year hundreds of photographs are submitted by photographers from all over the country. Sixteen images have been selected for the exhibit--12 that will appear in the calendar and four that received honorable mention. This year’s grand prize winner is Jim Kruger of Minnetonka, Minn.
In addition to receiving credit and publicity for their winning photos, photographers also received gift certificates for food and lodging at Bluefin Bay on Lake Superior.
The Waterfront Gallery is located at 632 First Avenue in Two Harbors. The gallery’s website is at www.waterfront-gallery.com
LSCT presents Death of a Salesman—save the date
The Lake Superior Community Theater will be presenting the Pulitzer and Tony Award winning classic Death of a Salesman this spring. Rehearsals, under the direction of Paul Deener, have begun at Kelley High School with a cast of 17 actors.
Death of a Salesman, by Arthur Miller, was written in 1948 and tells the story of the last 24 hours of the life of Willy Loman, who grapples with the meaning of life, relationships with family, the quest for the American Dream, capitalism, materialism and the choices he’s made throughout his life.
Performances of the play are slated for April 12-14, 19 & 20 in the Kelley auditorium, with a daytime performance for high school students on April 11. Tickets may be purchased at www.lsct.us
Hand-forged art with Dale Burton featured on PlayList
On Thursday, Jan. 31, Dale Burton will show off his forging skills on public television. The episode can be seen at 9 p.m. on WDSE-WRPT PBS North Channel 8.1 and again at midnight.
Raw elements, inspiration and intuition stoke the fire at Dale Burton’s Forge & Gallery. His hand-forged ironwork resonates with the natural beauty of the North Shore. The PlayList steps inside his winter workshop for a master lesson from the Two Harbors native, and brings the old-time magic of the forge into the realm of contemporary art.
