TH girls’ basketball

The Agate girls probably faced the toughest two game stretch of its season last week when they played back to back games versus Mountain Iron-Buhl, the state's No.1 ranked class A team, and AA’s No.3 ranked team, Esko. They lost 85-15 to MIB and 90-16 to the Eskomos.

MIB was led by eighth- grader Myra Buffeta who scored 19 points. Lura Ostman, Chelsea Mason and Lissy McCulloch each had double figures for the Rangers. Casey Cross topped the Agates with 9 points.

Esko’s UCLA bound Savanna Trapp led the game with 17 points. The Eskimos were successful on 11 three- pointers. Lane Schraufnagel and Kalee Prince were the top scorers for the Agates.

The Agates then suffered a tough 66-60 loss at Eveleth to the Eveleth-Gilbert Golden Bears. The Agates led at halftime by a score of 33-24.

TH boys’ basketball

The Agate boys also had a tough stretch of schedule in their last four games. They played the top two teams in the Polar League-- Esko and Barnum, and the top team in the Iron Range conference in International Falls along with Eveleth-Gilbert. They lost 80-36 to Esko, 62-30 to Eveleth-Gilbert and 76-53 to Barnum.

Zach Wood put in 17 points for Eveleth to lead all scorers as the Golden Bears led 26-18 halftime on their way to a 62-30 victory. Trygve Lodin and Alex Lemke led the Agates in scoring in the game.

The Bombers of Barnum were led by Brandon Newman who finished up with 30 points. Charlie Pavlisich wasn't far behind as he put in 25 for the Agates. The Bombers broke it open in the second half after leading 42-35 at halftime.

SB girls’ basketball

The girls traveled to Duluth and fell 45-33 to the Duluth Marshall Hilltoppers. Alicia Nopola of the Mariners led all scorers with 16 points .Brandi Nopola added 10 and Tara Dow had 7, while Mary Baumgartner had 10 for the Hilltoppers. The Mariners fell behind 30-19 at halftime and it proved too much to make up. On Monday the Mariners lost 63-36 at Grand Marais to the Cook County Vikings

SB boys’ basketball

The Mariner boys along with the girls had their game with South Ridge postponed.
