Winter reading programs for all ages started this week at Two Harbors Public Library and will run through Feb. 28. The children’s program is called “Winter Escape,” for teens there is “Slide Into A Good Book” and the adult program is “Hot Reads for Cold Nights.” All programs are intended to provide an extra incentive for reading and add some extra fun to winter reading.
Children will track reading time on a race track with incentive prizes for each hour of reading, plus drawing entries for the larger prizes— airbrush, Play-Doh, art set, or solar system, all provided by the Friends of the Library.
Teens and adults turn in slips with the title and author of each book read and there will be a chance to see which books others are recommending. The book slips double as drawing entries and teens can also receive drawing entries when attending library events, including a craft event on Jan. 19, Anime Club on Jan. 26, and Wii gaming on Feb. 2. Teen prizes are gift cards to Shopko, Amazon, and Barnes& Noble, all provided by the FOL.
Adults will have a chance to win a gift certificate donated by Splashing Rock Restaurant, note card sets donated by Voyageur artists Elsie Cook, Joyce Gow, Sandi Pillsbury Gradzens, and Dorothy Moe, Hot Reads mugs and other prizes provided by the FOL. The drawing for the children’s Winter Escape will be Friday Mar. 1 at about 2:30 p.m. and the adults Hot Reads for Cold Nights Drawing will follow at about 3:00. The drawing for teen Slide Into A Good Book prizes will be during a wrap-up party.
