Artist's mural unveiled at library

Lisa Kosmo has solidified her place at the Two Harbors Public Library. She’s already been an employee for many years, but now she’s left her mark in a more visible way.

On Tuesday, Dec. 4, the library staff unveiled a mural Kosmo painted on the wall in the entryway of the library. Kosmo, who studied visual arts in college, based the mural off of photograph. Her models, the people in the foreground of the mural, were Lois Johnson, a library aide, her two sons and two daughters of Librarian Shannon Haveri. She incorporated the history of the area by featuring a book on Lake Superior and a panoramic view of an ore boat coming into the harbor. She said the painting took her about six evenings to finish.

The mural is part of a public art project to beautify the library. It’s funded by the Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Legacy Fund.

The library is still accepting requests for proposals for artwork in and around the library until Saturday. For more details, visit www.twoharborspubliclibrary.com. Potential artists can also stop by the library at 320 Waterfront Drive, Two Harbors, call 834-3148 or e-mail mcmonson@arrowhead.lib.mn.us.
