Finland News: Dec. 14

By: Verna Sinderman for the Lake County News-Chronicle, Lake County News Chronicle

The Cory Carriveau Benefit was held on Sunday afternoon, despite the snow. The Clair Nelson Rec Hall was filled to the brim with friends and relatives. An approximate count was 450-500 people that attended. All the communities along the North Shore were very generous in their donations. It was wonderful to see everyone coming together for a great cause. Also thank you to Faron and Angie Meeks of Julie’s Variety for the generous donation, establishing an account at the store for the Carriveau family to purchase what they need. People can contribute to this account by stopping by the store.

People can also donate to the Cory Carriveau Benefit account set up at North Shore Federal Credit Union at all 3 Branches.

Finland Fire and Rescue thanks all that supported this event in any way. Sunday’s benefit took in approximately $15,000.00. At this time Cory now needs to build his blood counts up before further treatment. Keep those thoughts and prayers coming.

Again at Christmas, what a wonderful feeling to see the cross shining brightly on top of Silver Hill. This is the 29th year. Ron Van Bergen said it was a lot easier to climb the hill back then! As Ron quoted, “the Silver Hill Cross might not be as spectacular as the White House Christmas Tree or the Christmas lights at Times Square, but it certainly lights up our little piece of the world.”

Thank you to Ron, Paul Moran, Barret Stavseth and Larry Hickman for their hard work making this happen.

Happy Birthday to Elwood Youngberg who turned the big 80 on Monday, Dec. 10

Correction to last week’s news: Sorry about the misspelling of Alec Breden’s name.
