Hoofed hoopsters a hit at high school

Recently donkeys were seen trotting around the Two Harbors High School gym. No, the gym floor wasn’t ruined and no, it wasn’t a case of escaped farm animals; the donkeys were part of a basketball team. Students and staff from Two Harbors High School and Minnehaha Elementary School rode the hoofed hoopsters while facing off in a basketball tournament.

The event raised funds for the purchase of new uniforms for the Two Harbors High School cheerleading team. The cheer team, sponsored through Community Education, doesn’t receive funding through the school. Melanie Ross, the adviser for the team and organizer of donkey basketball, said that with the money they raised from ticket sales at the game and from their recent Halloween dance, they should be able to afford their new outfits.

“It was an absolutely wonderful community event and the girls feel really supported,” Ross said.

The Two Harbors High School staff won the tournament.
