Ruth Caroline Swenson

Ruth Caroline Swenson, 90, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Nov. 1, on All Saints’ Day. She died peacefully and without pain in the loving home of her daughter, Caroline Miller, of Two Harbors. Ruth was born March 15, 1922, in Yorkville, Ill., to Erick Edwin (May 18, 1894-June 17, 1979) and Anna Katrina (nee Thompson) Ostrom (April 9, 1897-March 9, 1985). In August 1941, she was married to Warren L. Swenson of St. Charles, Minn.

She was instrumental in founding the Golden Fellowship of First Baptist Church of Geneva during her 50-year affiliation with that church. She was a devoted mother and grandmother faithfully remembering and praying for her family.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Caroline Miller of Two Harbors, and her three sons, John of Littleton Colo., Richard (Linda) of Menomonie Wisc., and Don (Jo Lene Thoele) of Rantoul, Kan. She has 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her brother, Robert (Romelle) Ostrom of Burlington, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Clarence Ostrom; her sister, Amy Verhaeghe; her infant brother, John S. (December 9-12, 1918) and infant sister, Esther E. (February 3-6, 1924); her son-in-law, Bernard (Wad) Miller; and her great-grandson, Nico Everett Swenson.

The funeral will be Friday, Nov. 9, at the First Baptist Church of Geneva at 2300 South Street. Visitation will be from 9 -10 a.m., with the service at 10 a.m. and internment to follow at Westside Cemetery, Geneva, Ill. There will be a light lunch at the church.
