On Saturday, Oct. 13 Scales and Tales Sports held its 2nd annual grouse tournament. There were 22 hunters and eight additional people who attended the banquet which was held at Camp 61.The hunters took in a total of 27 birds. The winning team, which was Steve and Christina Jonson and Deven VanHouse, took a total of 9 birds. Justin Hendrickson who was a sole hunter, took second place with five birds. Third place went to the Goutermont clan made up of Becky, Phil and Ben Goutermont and Chad Strieff. They also took the award for the heaviest bird weighing in at one pound and nine ounces.

A raffle was held at the banquet and the following items were raffled off: Weatherby 20 gauge shotgun, two Les Kuoba prints, one Dale Kanffla print, a long gun case, a knife and sheath made by Warren Swarmer and a two- day/two- night hog hunt in Lorida, Florida.

All the proceeds from this event were given to the Sportsman’s Foundation for Military Families, which is a non-profit organization that Dave and Kristina Pirsig, owners of Scales and Tales, feel very strongly about. Last year this event took in $500 and their hope was to double that amount this year, which they did. A total of $1,000 was taken in and will be donated to SFMF. A big thank you goes out to all the hunters and their families and friends who came out to support our military and families in this event. People got out in the woods, harvested wonderful birds and had fun for a great cause.

The Zion women are busy getting ready for their 35th bazaar which will be held on Saturday, Nov. 3. This year it will be held at the Clair Nelson Rec Center on County Road 7. The hours will be from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. In addition to the Zion Crafters, there will be other area crafters that will be hosting their own tables and crafts. The women will be again serving their great soup and sandwiches. Mark your calendar and come out for a fun day.

The Finland Fire Department will be holding their annual raffle drawing on Sunday, Oct. 28 at the Trestle Inn at Crooked Lake. Buy your chance for cash prizes, $2.00 per ticket. Stop out and enjoy the afternoon.
