Finland news: Oct. 12

By: Verna Sinderman for the Lake County News-Chronicle, Lake County News Chronicle

Finland Fire Rescue hosted an Open House on Saturday. Despite the few snow flurries and cool weather, the day was very educational and successful. The trucks were all on display and nicely washed and waxed. The live burn and auto extraction demonstrations put on by the fireman were great. It is nice to see all the new members that have recently joined the department. Hats off to the entire Department for their time and service to our community.

Don Peterson of Lax Lake took in the Open House. He can speak from experience as to the importance of a Fire Department as he had a house fire during the last year. He is thankful that his home was saved.

Brats, Hot Dogs and Hamburgers were served along with doughnuts and some great cookies that were donated by Lois Peterson. Raffle winners for the smoke detectors were Dale Nikula and Gary Morris.

Get well wishes go out to Millie Goette who was recently taken to the hospital and is now at home.

Deepest sympathy goes out to the family and friends of Dick Thorngren. Dick died on Saturday, Oct. 6 at home. Dick was a lifetime resident and he will surely be missed by all. He was very active in many organizations and a great harmonica player. He also had many stories to tell and was famous for his fish cakes. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 13 at the United Protestant Church in Silver Bay.
