Honor Schauland recently received a Bush Fellowship. Honor will be doing research and trying to implement small- scale sustainable economic development initiatives in the Finland and Isabella area. She will begin by gathering feedback from all the local business owners and learning what would help people start businesses, and what types of new businesses would really benefit the community. A lot of this work will happen out of the new community center. Honor has big plans for the future of the area. Congratulations Honor.

Ruth Himes and Judy Martell attended a presentation at the Cross River Heritage Center in Schroeder on Saturday. The program was Lumbar Jill’s and Jack. Jim and Jan Hall and the Lyght family were to perform. However the Lyght brothers could not make it but John Lyghts daughter was there. They reported it was a good presentation and refreshments were served.

There was a great turnout for the 40TH anniversary of Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center which was held over this past weekend. On Friday evening there was a fundraiser celebration held at Glensheen mansion. Michelle Lee, anchor for Northland News Center, KBJR channel 6 was the emcee for the evening. On Sunday there was an outdoor ceremony honoring Jack Pichotta at Wolf Ridge. Many people told of their experiences at Wolf Ridge in Isabella and in Finland. Dinner was served following the ceremony.

On Saturday, Oct. 6, Finland Fire Rescue will be holding an open house from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for Fire Prevention Week. Stop down and tour the building and trucks. There will be demos going on throughout the day. There will be a live burn at 11 a.m. and auto extraction demo at 1 p.m. Coffee and other refreshments will be provided. This event is free, bring the family. There will be fire prevention packets for the kids.
