Nancy Sullivan

Nancy Sullivan was born in Two Harbors, Minn., Sept. 8, 1941, the fifth of seven children and died Sept. 13 from ovarian cancer.

She graduated from Two Harbors High School, attended the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn., and received her bachelor's degree in Health Information Management. After working in Milwaukee for 10 years, Nancy moved to Seattle, Wash., to begin a wonderful 34-year career in the cancer surveillance system at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. She formed many close and supportive friendships at Fred Hutch.

Nancy lived simply so that others could simply live. She was a woman of deep faith and served very actively in her church. Nancy made this real by walking in the footsteps of Christ and serving others, especially the poor. She treated the earth with great reverence, always recycling and avoiding pollution.

Nancy enjoyed family and friends, walking, cooking and theater.

Preceding her in death were her mother and father Harold and Angela Sullivan and brother Daniel. Nancy is survived by brothers Thomas Sullivan of Two Harbors and Patrick (Dianne) Sullivan of Chippewa Falls, Wis.; sisters Joan (David) Dobbs of Denver, Colo., Rosemary (David) Myers of Amery, Wis., and Kathleen (Robert) Hitchcock of University Place, Wash.; 14 nieces and nephews and many grand-nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be held for Nancy at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at Our Lady of the Lake in Seattle. The mass will be preceded by the Rosary at 10:30 a.m. and will be followed by a luncheon at 12 p.m.

Spring interment will be in Two Harbors, Minn. The family wishes to thank Dr. Drescher, Swedish Hospital and Franciscan Hospice House in Tacoma for their wonderful care of Nancy. Following Nancy's wishes, memorial contributions should be sent to Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research, 1221 Madison St., Suite 1401, Seattle Wash., 98104.
