Volunteer spotlight: Phyllis Mealey

By: Jan O'Donnell for the Lake County News-Chronicle , Lake County News Chronicle

Phyllis Mealey has always volunteered. After moving to Two Harbors in 1962, she was involved in activities with her children, in her church, and in the community.

“It’s just what you do,” she said.

In the past, it wasn’t really called volunteering, it was just helping out where you can. Phyllis is currently volunteering as an AARP Tax Aide, she chairs the board of the local Salvation Army, and is the representative to the VA Hospital in Silver Bay from the Two Harbors American Legion Auxiliary. Phyllis thinks that volunteering is a great way to meet and get to know people, as well as keeping busy doing interesting things that benefit neighbors in the broader community.

“Volunteering keeps me from slowing down,” she said. If you want to rev up your life and give back to the community, contact Jan, RSVP/NVC at 834-2280, ext. 108.

Arrowhead RSVP is part of Senior Corps and sponsored by AEOA. Funding is provided by the Corporation for National & Community Service; Minnesota Board on Aging; St. Louis and Lake Counties.
