Our volunteer in the spotlight this week is Allen Michaelson. He grew up in southern Minnesota and northern Iowa. He came to Silver Bay in 1959, joining his brother, and went to work for the mining company. Michaelson and his wife now live in Two Harbors.

Michaelson had heard about Rural Rides from a friend and was thinking about becoming a volunteer. His grandson thought he was taking too long to make the decision and sent in the volunteer application to get the ball (or tires) rolling. Michaelson is very happy he did that!

Rural Rides volunteers provide rides to people who are at risk of losing their jobs due to a transportation problem. The volunteers provide much needed rides on a short term basis. Michaelson likes his volunteer job because it takes him a variety of places and he meets all kinds of people.
