The evening book group at Two Harbors Public Library took a break over the summer and will meet again on Thursday, Sept. 7, at 6:30. The group has been reading famous books from the 1800's. The September choice is Silas Marner, by George Eliot (a pen name for Mary Ann Evans.) This classic is a showcase of English country life, the gentry and the townsfolk, in a story of betrayal, love, and redemption; the miser who loves only his hoard of gold comes to love a different sort of gold that becomes more precious to him. Anyone is welcome to join the evening book group, either for a single book or as a regular member. The afternoon book group also continues to meet the third Thursday of each month, reading a wide variety of books. The September choice for the afternoon group is Cry, the Beloved Country, by Alan Paton, a story from South Africa in the 1940's. Copies of either book are available to check out at the library.
The Friends of the Library are looking for donations of good used books for their September book sale. Books can be dropped off at the Two Harbors Public Library.
