Marie Frey is amazing! She has been volunteering in Silver Bay since 1952. I think that classifies as a “lifetime”. She moved to Silver Bay from Brooklyn, NY with a stop in North Dakota after she was married. And, she has been volunteering ever since. Along the way, she has organized holiday parties, children’s activities, cooked food for events, and volunteered at the Day Activity Center in Knife River. Marie is very careful to clarify that she didn’t do any of this alone. “I am just a little more visible because I do the organizing.”
“When God took my husband, he gave me the Veteran’s Home,” she said. She spends a lot of time at the Home talking to residents, taking them on trips, playing bingo and doing whatever they ask her to do. Marie is also still active in the Silver Bay community in a variety of ways. But, she worries that there aren’t enough volunteers. Join Marie in volunteering in your community.
