• Prarie Fire Children's Theater

If you missed Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre’s production of “Sleeping Beauty” in Silver Bay this August you missed a hilarious, inexpensive family night out. Prairie Fire has been coming to Silver Bay each August for over 20 years thanks to funding from the Silver Bay Charitable Fund of the Duluth-Superior Area Community Foundation and the City of Silver Bay. The play is performed by local children (as well as many friends and relatives from out of town) ages 7 through 18. Many great memories and friendships have been forged through this amazing community event over the past two decades.

Faith Frahm, a senior at William Kelley High School who recently performed the role of Sandy in Lake Superior Community Theatre’s “Grease” is a Prairie Fire veteran.

“I have been doing Prairie Fire for the last 11 years and it’s been so much fun. It’s great to meet the new directors each year because they have such fun ideas and great tips. It’s a great opportunity to meet new people and get more stage experience,” Frahm said.

Acting workshops are also available to both participants and non-participants at no charge thanks to a grant from the Pat Lorntson Children’s Endowment for the Arts. Many children who were too young to participate this year, or were not quite ready to try their acting chops on stage, joined some of the cast in learning about acting in general, stage combat, dance and stage makeup—always a favorite workshop.

Next year, Prairie Fire will prepare and perform “Robin Hood” the first week of August. If you haven’t participated or seen Prairie Fire in the past, do yourself a favor and mark your calendar for next year. Come on out and catch the fire.
