Lt. Col. (Ret.) Jon M. Marklund, age 67, Tacoma, Wash., formerly of Two Harbors passed away Sun., July 29, 2012, peacefully at home from pancreatic cancer.
Lt. Col. (Ret.) Jon M. Marklund, age 67, Tacoma, Wash., formerly of Two Harbors passed away Sun., July 29, 2012, peacefully at home from pancreatic cancer.
He was born Sept. 6, 1944. He graduated from Two Harbors High School in 1962. He attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth, graduating in 1966. Jon retired from the United States Air Force in 1989 after 22 years of distinguished service. As a fighter pilot he flew over 150 combat missions in F-4 Phantoms during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and multiple air medals.
After the war he trained pilots in the F-5E, served as an advisor to the Canadian Forces fighter staff, flew the F-15C and T-33. He retired while stationed at the McChord Air Force Base as the 25th Air Division Director of Safety. He continued his career with the Boeing Company as a systems engineer for the F-22 stealth fighter until his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents Marvin (Coco) and Irene (Dahlgren) Marklund of Two Harbors, brother Stephen Marklund of Long Beach, Calif., wife Susan (Kriedler) Marklund and stepson Jonathan Farvour of Tacoma, Wash. He remarried July 26, 1990. He is survived by his wife Patricia (Farvour) Marklund of Tacoma, Wash., daughter Kelly (Mike) Collins of Tucson, Ariz., son Jon Jr. of Seattle, Wash., stepsons Jeffrey Farvour of Sitka, Alaska, and Shaun Farvour of Tacoma, Wash., and his sister Coreen (Mark) Kennedy of Fridley, Minn. Also grandchildren Kaylen, Justin, Julian, Bailey and Rian and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
His celebration of life was held Friday August 3, 2012, at the New Tacoma Funeral Home. He was loved, respected, and will be missed by all who knew him.
