The Northern Rail Traincar Bed and Breakfast in Two Harbors has won an award from popular travel website TripAdvisor.

“[This B&B] offers travelers the opportunity to stay off the beaten track in one of 17 train cars outfitted in diverse décor. Upon arrival, travelers collect their room key at the depot-style check-in, before making their way to their train car suite equipped with central air, television, and in some rooms, even a fireplace,” TripAdvisor said.

The B&B was ranked sixth in a list of 10 quirkiest lodgings in the nation. The other accommodations were strewn across the nation in Big Sur, Calif., Memphis, Tenn. and New York State, among others. They included a former jail, a tree house resort and a converted lighthouse.

One TripAdvisor traveler commented, “The rail cars create such a unique atmosphere that you won't find anywhere else.”

“For travelers looking for a unique experience, these properties offer peculiar but pleasant stays, and stories to tell for a lifetime,” said Brooke Ferencsik, director of communications at TripAdvisor.

The Northern Rail Traincar B&B is located north of Two Harbors at 1730 Highway 3. They can be reached at 834-0955.
