School sports prepare for season

Coaches’ announcements:
Swimming
The Two Harbors High School swim team will begin unofficial captains’ practices on August 8. All Two Harbors girls entering grades 7-12 with an interest in swimming and diving are encouraged to attend. Swimmers should bring a suit, cap, goggles, tennis shoes and dry land clothes. Practices will run from 9-11 a.m.
The season will officially begin August 15, and a parents’ meeting will take place that evening at 6 p.m. Parents will have the opportunity to ask questions, receive schedules and eligibility paperwork and pay participation fees Heather Oberg will be coaching the team. Contact her at 218-391-8629. Regular practices will be Monday thru Friday from 3-6 p.m. During the academic year, practices will be after school until 6 p.m.
Football
Two Harbors Varsity and Junior Varsity football practice will begin on Monday, August 13th at 8 a.m. at Two Harbors High School. For the first two weeks there will be two practices a day Monday through Friday from 8-10:30 a.m. & 5-7:30 p.m. Starting the third week, practice will be from 5-8 p.m. When school begins, practice will be directly after school until 6:30 p.m., and until 6 p.m. on Wednesdays.
For grades 7-8 (Jr. High), the season will begin Monday, August 20TH at 4 p.m. at Lake County Arena. Practices will run from 4-6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday until school starts. During the academic year practices will be directly after school until 6:15 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Wednesday practices will finish at 6 p.m.
For grades 5-6 (Pony FB), the season will begin on Monday, August 20TH at 4:15 P.M. at Odegard Park warming shack. Practices will be from 4:15-5:45 P.M. Monday through Thursday. Game schedules will be handed out the first week of practice.
For grades 1-4 (Flag FB), the season will begin on Tuesday, September 11TH at 4:15 p.m. at Odegard Park warming shack. Practices will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Season will run from Tuesday, September 11th through Tuesday, October 16th.
An informational meeting for parents and players of all grade levels, including Flag, Pony, Junior High, Junior Varsity and Varsity will be held on Tuesday, August 14th, at 7 p.m. in the Two Harbors High School auditorium. The meeting will take less than an hour and will cover information pertaining to all levels of football, including schedules, fees, lettering policy, and details of the Minnesota State High School League eligibility paperwork.
Cross-country running
Practice for the combined Cook County/Two Harbors cross country running team will begin on August 13. Practice will be from 4:45 p.m-6:15 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays until school starts. The team will meet behind Two Harbors High School by the student parking lot. Boys and girls in grades 7-12 are welcome to attend. The head coach is April Wahlstrom of Cook County. The coach in Two Harbors is Beth Schield.
Soccer
Boys’ Varsity and Junior Varsity Soccer practice will begin Monday August 13, 4:30 pm at the old Halsted Field. Boys entering grades 7 -12 with an interest in playing should attend.
