Alice Metzinger passed away in her home at Edgewood Vista in Hermantown at the age of 88. Alice was a former area resident here for many years. Deepest sympathy goes out to her family and friends.
Thoughts and prayers go out to Patsy Barstad who is now in the Lakeshore Lutheran Home.
Thoughts and prayers to Shirley Beck who now has been moved back to St. Eligius Health Center in West Duluth.
The weather was beautiful for the Relay for Life which was held on Friday evening in Silver Bay with a good attendance.
If you have been to the Trestle Inn in the last 10 years, you have met Charlie, the dear dog friend who was always lying on the front steps to greet you. Charlie died in December from bone cancer. On August 18th, which happens to be National Homeless Animal Day, the Trestle Inn will hold the first annual Friends of Charlie Dog Fair and show in the parking lot at 2:00. The Trestle would like to make this an annual summer event and donate the proceeds to a dog related non-profit each summer. This summer they will donate the proceeds of the event to the Central Minnesota Animal Care and Control. The CMACC has purchased a mobile adoption trailer and are working towards permanent kennels installed inside the enclosed trailer.
The CMACC will also be bringing adoptable animals to the event and will be offering a micro chipping lifetime registration for $25.00. They will offer an Animal CPR class on Sunday morning.
Some of the activities on Saturday will be a hot dog stand with all the fixings, a dog dish decorating station, Putting on the Dog, a grooming and specialized off-leash non kennel boarding facility will have information and a display. Finland Fire Department will have a display and information.
There will also be dog show and contests. The contest categories are cutest puppy, oldest dog, ugliest dog, best dressed dog, best camo- dressed dog, best smile, best trick and worst trick. . For further information on the event you can contact Sarah or Sue at The Trestle Inn, 218-830-0523.
Zion Lutheran Church will no longer be having the Harvest Finn Fest Booya. Zion would like to thank all those that supported this event for the past 26 years. Many great memories and friendships were made over the years, coming together each fall. Can anyone guess how many total gallons were made in the 26 years? Thinking back, it was amazing. A big thank you goes out to all those that dedicated their time and talents to this event.
