Norma O’Leary of Silver Bay and Deb Showalter of Hermantown, with a combined 14 titles between them, lead the field for today’s Nemadji Women’s Invitational at Nemadji Golf Course in Superior.
O’Leary has won nine championships, including four of the last five, while Showalter has won five times. The last time anyone else took first in championship flight was in 2001.
The senior division has been renamed the Nemadji Women’s Golf Club Renna Rychlak Memorial Tournament in honor of former club president and tournament organizer Rychlak, who died in July 2011. A new tee box dedicated to Rychlak on the No. 12 hole of the North-South course will be used for the first time today. Barb Olson returns to defend her title.
The duo totaled 110 strokes over a shortened 27 holes, six behind the pairing of Claudia Pilot and Brenda Williams.
