Dennis Herschbach will speak on Wednesday, July 25 at 6 p.m. the Two Harbors Public Library. His talk is about making the transition from writing poetry to writing prose.
Herschbach’s most recent novel, Convergence at Two Harbors, was featured in the News-Chronicle’s June 15 issue.
Herschbach currently lives in Sartell, Minn., with his wife, Vicky Schaefer.
Big Waves, Small Boat, Two Kids book author Katya Gordon will be at the Two Harbors Public Library on July 23 at 6:30 p.m. to speak about her book and her family's sailing adventures. The book documents the family's 1,200 mile circumnavigation of Lake Superior and their 5,000 trip to the Caribbean.
Gordon and her family were featured in the News-Chronicle’s May 18 issue.
This Friends of the Library program is free.
Comedian and magician Star Michaelina to perform
Star Michaelina presents “The Magic of Dreaming Big,” an interactive, comedy magic show for children of all ages. She will be at the Two Harbors Public Library on Tuesday, July 24 at 4 p.m. The show features books that help everyone learn what can be accomplished by following your dreams.
Iron Range native Star Michaelina followed her dreams to become a professional magician. With a background in mime, juggling, dance and circus skills, Star’s lighthearted programs have won accolades from libraries, troop leaders, and the Guthrie Theater.
Admission to the event is free.
Amanda Ryder elected to board
Amanda Ryder, librarian for the Marshall School of Duluth, has been appointed to the Arrowhead Library System governing board, effective July 1.
The 13-member board meets bimonthly at the ALS system headquarters in Mountain Iron. The Arrowhead Library System provides library services to many area residents through the Mail-A-Book program and services offered via the Duluth Schools.
ALS provides support for and fosters cooperation among the 29 public libraries in the seven-county area. Additional information concerning ALS can be located at the system’s website: www.arrowhead.lib.mn.us
