The Finland Fire Department will hold its 28th Annual Wooden All Bat Tournament on Saturday, July 21, and Sunday, July 22, starting 8 a.m. at the Gregg Ball Field. Help support the Finland Fire Department by coming out and enjoying the games, food and refreshments and cheering your favorite team on.

The Zion Lutheran Church Women will again be serving delicious pies at their Annual Pie Social, which will be held on Saturday, July 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Clair Nelson Rec Center.

Thoughts and prayer go out to Shirley Beck, who is in St. Luke’s hospital.

Birthday wishes to Kai Jo Beamer, who celebrated her 21st birthday on Sunday with family and friends at the Breeze Inn in Duluth. Among family who attended were Dale and Joretta Nikula, Lori and Pat Driscoll and Tom Nikula.

Get-well wishes go out to Lois Peterson, who recently spent some time last week in the hospital.

Don Runnberg and Jean Wagner attended the graduation party of Don’s granddaughter, Erika Bildeaux, in Skandia on June 30. Others attending were Dale and Joretta Nikula, Pat and Lori Driscoll, Ginger and Paul Tolzmann and Joe, Gina, Marissa and Tanner Dufault. They also had a fun time taking in the horse races.

Derek and Jenn VanHouse are the proud new parents of a baby girl. Madisyn Kay was born on July 6, weighing in at 6 pounds, 1 ounce and measuring 18.5 inches. Her proud brother is Gavin. Proud grandparents are Doug and Lori Lillback, Steve and Michelle Vanhouse and great-grandmas Betty Lillback and Shirley VanHouse. Congratulations to all.

Wes and Judy Fales spent a week visiting with Judy’s cousin, Jim Sinderman, and family. They then went on to Grand Marais to spend a few weeks.

DeAnn and Jakob Striker, Josh Philippi, Doug Striker, Vanessa Rakow along with her niece and nephew spent the week at Lax Lake Resort. Larry Striker and Kristi Striker joined them later in the week, visiting with Jim and Verna Sinderman and family and Bob and Linda Nikolai and family.

On Saturday a short memorial service was held at Crystal Bay Cemetery for Ann Striker, with a gathering after at Zion Lutheran Church. Some of those from out of town who attended were Ginger and Paul Tolzmann, Josh and Julie Arnold, Fred Edgar, Mary Alice Reed, Nancy Hoops and her sister Louise and Wes and Judy Fales.

Congratulations to Josh and Jessica Klemmer on the birth of their new son. Max Alan was born on June 29, weighing in at 7 pounds, 11 ounces and measuring 21 inches.
