A thank you for patriotism

To the Editor:

Our local Independence Day observance was made even better this year thanks to Bob and Doris Larkin. These two wonderful people, dressed as Lady Liberty and Uncle Sam, stood on 7th Avenue for hours waving and welcoming people to our great city. They helped people cross the busy highway; they had their pictures taken by and with thankful and patriotic visitors, and many veterans stopped to personally thank them.

If you asked them why they did it, their quick answer was, “Because we just love doing this.” What an unselfish demonstration of patriotism for Two Harbors and our Country!

Bob and Doris are two of the many volunteers who demonstrate, with their time and energy, what Independence Day is all about.

Jan and I want to thank them—publicly. We are fortunate to have this couple living in our community. Thank you, Bob and Doris.
