Poetry in the Park

Local women Ruth, Micky, and Diane gathered on Monday evening at Thomas Owens Park to read their original poetry. Some were about the big lake in honor of Lake Superior, a few were about quilting, and others were about the changing of seasons. This was the first time the Friends of Two Harbors Library event was held in Thomas Owens Park; it usually takes place in the library. 11-year-old Katrina impressed with a rousing recitation of the Gettysburg Address and readings of her own poems such as “Time,” “Devil,” and “Hm.”

11-year-old Katrina impressed with a rousing recitation of the Gettysburg Address and readings of her own poems such as “Time,” “Devil,” and “Hm.” She also began reading a poem about painting. It was, however, half-finished so she improvised the ending. She concluded the poem with the line, “You just do what you do best.” It seems that she has taken that advice to heart.

Poetry readings are 6:30 p.m., the second Monday of every month. Performers and spectators are welcome. Participants may read original works or recite poetry written by others.
