Lake County officials will soon hear some results of an ongoing data center feasibility study and they’re optimistic about the chances of attracting a major technology company to the shores of Lake Superior.
The county is in the midst of a major fiber-to-home project and is trying to court companies such as Google, Verizon, HP and AT&T to build a network hub in the county.
In addition to the high-speed internet, companies could take advantage of the lake to save on cooling costs.
“I’m confident that we’ll attract companies with the fiber network,” Bergman said. “But you can’t go out and sell unless you do a feasibility study first.”
Shannon Kimball, the president of I.T. Netcom, the company that is conducting the study was planning to present findings to the board Thursday. It wasn’t known Wednesday whether the meeting had been postponed or not due to the flooding in the region.
