Two Harbors Public Library news

The Two Harbor Public Library Board is still taking donations to purchase engraved brick pavers for the patio in front of the library addition. An engraved paver is a way to remember a loved one or to honor a mom, dad, or graduate. The library is taking orders ($100 donation each) for pavers that will be installed at the end of the summer. Call the library at 834-3148 or stop in and ask at the desk for more information.

New loan periods

If you have been into the library lately, you have probably heard about the policy and loan period changes. They were approved by the Board of Trustees and went into effect this week.

Here’s a quick overview:

  • DVDs and VHS tapes now check out for seven days instead of four.

  • Magazines for children now check out for four weeks instead of one.

  • Magazines for adults now check out for two weeks instead of one.

  • Pamphlets now check out for two weeks instead of one.

  • New borrowers now have a three-item checkout limit the first time using their new card.

For minors with library cards, the parent responsible for the card must have their own card in good standing at time of issuing a new card to the minor, or renewing the minor’s existing card.

    Summer hours

The library is keeping the same weekday hours for the summer but is closed on Saturday through Labor Day weekend.

If you have any questions, stop in or call at 834-3148.

    Author visit

Author Charles Baxter will speak Monday about the writing process in a free program sponsored by the Friends of the Library. The talk begins at 6:30.

The Minnesota-born Baxter is the Edelstein-Keller Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Minnesota and also teaches in the MFA program at Warren Wilson College in North Carolina.

He is the author of five novels, including “The

Feast of Love,” a finalist for the National Book Award, and six collections of short stories, one of which is “Gryphon: New and Selected.” Recently, he was awarded the Rea Award for the Short Story.
