How I show my patriotism

Patriotism is about true loyalty and deep devotion.

By: Sky Ronstad, Minnehaha Elementary

Patriotism is about true loyalty and deep devotion. It is about loving my nation:

“One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

A patriot is dependable and takes delight in being a citizen “of the United States of America – and to the republic for which it stands…one nation.”

This one nation was started when our forefathers and mothers believed they had a right to be free, to prove their independence.

We are leaders of liberty. Just knowing this, I am inspired to be faithful to my country, my family, and my God. I want to show my patriotism. I honor my father, a veteran, who said it’s about “duty, honor, and country.”

Duty: Taking responsibility for what you have to do.

Country: The nation of nations.

Honor: Doing the right thing.

My job as an American is to be noble, free, and loving. I feel allegiance even to our name: America.

“America! God shed His grace on thee.”

By always keeping true to the principles of “loving my neighbor as myself,” I show patriotism in little ways – like keeping my hand over my heart during the Pledge of Allegiance and saluting the flag.

I honor my veterans just by sending homemade cards during Easter, Valentine’s or Veterans Day. I feel wonderful when I hear those soldiers and sailors say, “You’ve touched my heart.”

My Papa said, “Sometimes you have to defend the country.” He did. And I will too.
