About this essay

Sky Ronstad won first place in the local Americanism Essay contest, open to Lake Superior School District students in grades 4-12. Second place went to Brinn Donais, third place to Jada Larsen, all from Minnehaha Elementary School’s fourth grade. The essays were entered into the national competition.

Sky shared her essay at the Memorial Day service Monday at Two Harbors High School. Ronstad was also elected as an officer for American Legion’s Auxiliary. Her mother, Jill Ronstad, is Sergeant at Arms for the Two Harbors Legion. Her father, David Ronstad, served in the Vietnam War with the U.S. Navy and is the newest member of the Legion. He signed on specifically to commemorate his “fallen comrades from the war, to extend a hand of faith to other military families, and to support the noble achievements of the next generation.”
