This is a reminder to all of us that Monday is Memorial Day. It is a legal holiday for honoring military members who have died. Also known as Decoration Day, it is observed by decorating their graves and memorials.
It also can be observed as is being done in Two Harbors, where we have a wonderful opportunity to say thank you, individually and collectively as a community, to our veterans.
Our Memorial Day starts as we gather at the Two Harbors High School auditorium to listen to the Two Harbors City Band. The activities will end when we gather at the veteran’s graves at the cemetery to give our final thanks.
We must teach our children what war is and that freedom is not free. Someone has given something to make it possible; perhaps even their life.
As we gather together with family and friends, let us all recognize the friends and family members who are no with us and give thanks to these patriots.
Let’s see how many of us we can get into the auditorium.
