Mara Ambli, 9, did her part Sunday to help Duluth recover from the recent flood.

She lives about a block away from Lincoln Park and was dismayed by its condition in the aftermath of last week’s heavy rains.

“A bunch of garbage and stuff got washed in the park, so I decided to meet some of my friends there to clean it up,” she said.

With the help of her mother, Jessie Jensen, Mara posted the cleanup on Facebook, and several people showed up to help Sunday. By early afternoon, Jensen said the volunteers had collected about eight garbage bags full of sticks, trash and debris.

“It looks a lot better already,” Ambli said. But she quickly added that she’d probably be back today to finish the job.
