The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Northeastern Minnesota, including Duluth, Cloquet, the Iron Range and the North Shore, until 1 a.m.

A tornado watch is in effect for Douglas, Washburn, Burnett and Pine counties, also until 1 a.m. That watch extends south almost - but not quite all the way - to the Twin Cities.

Large hail, damaging winds and very heavy rain are the main threats from any severe storms that develop, with an increased risk of tornadoes in the tornado watch area.

A flash flood watch remains in effect for much of the Northland through Wednesday. Rainfall of 2 to 4 inches - perhaps more in some spots - is possible overnight into Wednesday morning. Some parts of the region already have seen more than 2 inches of rain so far today.
