Combined bands to present spring concert
The Two Harbors High School band and the City Band will pool their talents Monday, April 30, for the annual spring concert. The performance, which brings high school musicians together with their friends and mentors in the community band, will be at 7:30 p.m. in the THHS Auditorium.
Graduating band seniors will be recognized at their final concert. The John Philip Sousa award and the Agate Band awards are among the honors to be presented. A slide show will recap the year, including the Seattle band trip.
Students who earned a score of superior at state contest will play their solos: Tori Highmark, trumpet; Micah Alm, trombone; Whitney Wasko, harp, and Dennis Pearson, tenor sax.
Pieces on the concert program include “Incidental Suite” by Claude T. Smith, “Second Military Suite in F” by Gustav Holst, and three American marches, including “Stars and Stripes Forever.”
High school band students have studied the evolution of the march and the musical form, and they shared their knowledge with Minnehaha fifth-grade students on March 26. The fifth-graders sat with the band as it demonstrated each component of the march. They heard each section of the band, met the players and asked questions.
