The Agates softball team started their season with a 4-2 win last Thursday against Ashland.
“Returning starters from last year were strong at the plate,” coach Julie Benson said. “Madison and Sasha called and pitched a great game.
The Agates went on to win another game Monday against Proctor. Despite the cold, windy conditions, the Agates were able to defeat proctor 5-2.
“Proctor is a strong hitting team, but our defense came through from all positions,” Benson said. “Proctor had the bases loaded in the fourth inning. Eighth-grader, Sarah Fjeran, came up with a quick throw to the plate to get the second out. Hannah Spiering came up with a great catch in center field to end the inning with no runs scored. Proctor battled back with a couple of doubles and two runs in the seventh. The Agates held their composure and ended the game with a 5 to 2 win.
The Tuesday game against Esko was cancelled due to the cold weather and will be rescheduled.
