As part of National Library Week, the Two Harbors Public Library is hosting an open house from 1 to 6 p.m. April 12.
There will be entertainment throughout the afternoon, including ragtime piano, violin and piano, and a string band. The Friends of the Library will have a membership table and refreshments will be served. Michele Monson, the library’s new director, will be on hand and is looking forward to meeting and visiting with attendees.
Kevin Clemens, author of Carnegie Libraries of Minnesota, is the featured speaker. His program begins at 6:30 p.m., but he will be available throughout the afternoon to chat with people. To write his book, Clemens traveled Minnesota, photographing the state’s Carnegie libraries and gathering their stories. Of the original 66 libraries built, 48 buildings still stand. Built in 1909 with a $15,000 grant, the Two Harbors library is one of 22 that are still working libraries.
Everyone is invited to help celebrate the past, present, and future of the library.
