Clair Nelson scholarship recipients

Friends of the Finland Community are pleased to announce the 2012 recipients of the Clair Nelson Vocational Scholarships.

Colby Abazs of Finland, Photography at Central Lakes College; Melissa Maria Nikula of Finland, Veterinary Technology at Duluth Business College; Micaiah Schubert of Two Harbors, Law Enforcement at Vermilion Community College; and Amanda Warzecha of Silver Bay, Apparel Manufacturing at the Fashion Institute of Design and Manufacturing, Calif.

The Clair Nelson Vocational Scholarship annually awards four $250 scholarships to applicants who are enrolled (or are in the process of enrolling) in a degree program focusing on a vocational degree or diploma. The scholarship is open to high school seniors and adults who reside in the Lake Superior School District.

Music scholarship available

The Friends of Brad Memorial Foundation is pleased to announce a $300 scholarship opportunity for Two Harbors student musicians.

This one-time scholarship is open to students who will graduate from Two Harbors High School in 2012 and plan to pursue musical endeavors while attending college. Preference will be given to students who plan to major in music, but those who intend to participate in performance activities such as ensembles, bands, or choirs may also apply.

Chamber scholarship

The Two Harbors Area Chamber of Commerce is offering five scholarships to ninth grade students. Three will be awarded in Two Harbors High School and two in William Kelley High School.

Awards are based on scholastic achievement, community involvement, and leadership abilities.

Applications are available at the schools’ guidance counselor offices. The deadline to submit applications is May 15.
