Charles F. Hare, 81, Silver Bay, died Monday, March 19, 2012, with his family by his side.

Charles F. Hare, 81, Silver Bay, died Monday, March 19, 2012, with his family by his side.

He was born in Chicago on January 25, 1931, to Charles and Olga Hare. He was a 1949 graduate of Ashland High School. After graduation he attended Northland College, and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving in the Korean War.

He married Arlene Vaughan on March 6, 1954, in Mason, Wis. and they settled in Silver Bay.

Charles worked at Reserve Mining Company from 1955 to 1986, and then returned to work at Cyprus and North Shore Mining Co. until his retirement.

He enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, watching Green Bay Packers football, and walking with his dog Annie. But most of all, Charles loved spending time with family. He was involved with the VFW and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents and wife of 57 years, Arlene, in September of last year.

He is survived by his sons, Keith (Cathy) of Silver Bay and James of Ashland; a daughter, Tammy (Ron) L’Allier of Silver Bay; 11grandchildren, Brian, Joel, Bill, Tina, Jenny, Greg, Daniel, Tiffany, Christopher, David, and Elizabeth; 11 great-grandchildren, Luke, Tanner, Anna, Keaton, Isaac, Ian, Elisabeth, Arrica, Katelyn, Oskar, and Natalie; brother Dallas (Francine) of Ashland; sisters Rita (Don) Windall of Hubertus, Wis., Sandy (Bill) Anderson of Mason, Wis., and Sharon Hare of Ashland; many nieces and nephews; and his dog Annie.

Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until the 2:30 p.m. service on Friday, March 23, 2012, at Faith Lutheran Church in Silver Bay. Burial will be in Sawtooth Mt. Cemetery. To sign the online register book please visit www.cavallinfuneralhome.com.
