Miss Lake Superior-North Shore seeks candidates
The Miss Lake Superior-North Shore Program, directed by Joy Newgard, is currently recruiting participants for the 2012 royalty year.
The Miss Lake Superior-North Shore Program, directed by Joy Newgard, is currently recruiting participants for the 2012 royalty year.
Candidates must be between the ages of 14 to 18 years old by the May 1 application deadline. The program is open to girls who reside or attend school within the following communities: Duluth, Beaver Bay, Silver Bay, Two Harbors, and any towns or townships between each.
Candidates will need to secure a business sponsor from her home town. The business sponsorship fee is $50 tax deductible fee. Sponsorship checks should be made payable to “Miss MN Valley” and mailed to Miss MN Valley, PO Box 484, Shakopee, MN 55379 by May 1.
Candidates will be judged on the following categories:
l Completed application
l One-page written essay about her town
l Volunteer experience
l Participation availability
Alyssa Schwanke, 2010 Miss Lake Superior-North Shore Queen, will be crowning the 2012 queen and princess during the Two Harbors Heritage Days festival. Chosen royalty will participate in parades and community events; reading to children at public libraries; visiting nursing homes; volunteering for nonprofit organizations such as Relay for Life, Salvation Army, Special Olympics, and others; and learning about each town’s historical background and local businesses.
