Evi Kari, 95, Two Harbors, died Wednesday, March 7, 2012, in Ecumen Scenic Shores.
She was born May 1, 1916, to Paul and Sigrid (Davidsson) Erickson in Perkala, Inio, Finland. In 1934 she immigrated to the United States, working for wealthy families in New York City from 1934 to 1938.
Evi married Elmer Kari on August 16, 1938 and has lived in Two Harbors since 1943. She was an excellent cook, seamstress, and carpenter. Evi was proud of the fact she could speak and write fluently in three languages – Swedish, Finnish, and English. She corresponded with her friends and relatives in Sweden and Finland until very recently.
Evi was a devoted and loving wife, mother, friend, and homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer in 1989; a
son Roy in 1974; a grandson, Alan Plante; a great-granddaughter, Nicole Plante; a brother, Harry; and a sister, Hulda.
Evi is survived by a daughter Anita (John) Haider of Oakdale, Minn.; sons, Ken and Ron Kari of Two Harbors; grandchildren Dianne, Richard, Rhonda, Jaime, and Jacki; great-grandchildren Brandon, Nicholas, Tayler, Dylan, Alexa, Lauren, Abbie, Peyton, Kari, Caleb, and Cora; niece, Carol; and nephew, John.
Visitation was from 4-7 p.m. Sunday in Cavallin Funeral Home, Two Harbors, where services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 12, 2012. Burial will
