Spring drum circle set for this Thursday
By: From Linda Melcher, Arts on Superior, Lake County News Chronicle
Arts on Superior is sponsoring a “Welcome Spring” drum circle and potluck this Tuesday at the Community Center in Two Harbors.
The potluck will begin at 5:30 p.m., drumming at 6:30 p.m. Bring a dish to share. Plates and eating utensils will be provided. Water and pop will be available for purchase. A donation of $10 per person is requested because this is a fundraiser for Arts on Superior, but please feel free to come and give what you can. Art is not exclusive.
Some drums and percussion instruments will be available but please bring your own if you have them. We will begin with simple rhythms everyone can master. As we move through the evening, we can begin layering other rhythms and percussive sounds into our “grooves.” Drumming is for everyone — young and old alike — and we will all learn together. There is no better way to come together than sharing a meal and drumming together.
The Arts on Superior Facebook page will have an event for the Drum Circle. Please join the event if you can make it.
Arts on Superior has been bringing arts to Two Harbors and the near North Shore of Lake Superior for six years. This year Arts on Superior, in collaboration with the City of Two Harbors and the Lake County Historical Society, has submitted a grant to the National Endowment for the Arts entitled “Our Town.” This grant will provide summer weekend arts themes in 2013-2014 and fall and winter concerts and workshops. The NEA grant requires a one-to-one match of funds. The “Welcome Spring” event is our kick-off for raising matching funds.
In the past six years, Arts on Superior has sponsored ten “Artist in Residencies” in the Lake County schools, two summers of free music, “Fridays in the Park,” and two fall concerts with workshops. The vision of Arts on Superior is to build community through the arts, and we want you to join us in celebrating our community and the arts.
Please visit our website and sign up on our email list to know when events are happening in Two Harbors and “like” us on Facebook as another way to stay in touch. We do not send out a lot of emails. Facebook is our favorite way to list upcoming events.
If you cannot make it to our first fundraiser for 2012, please consider giving a tax-deductible donation. You may do this through our website, www.artsonsuperior.org, or by mailing a check to: Arts on Superior, P.O. Box 185, Two Harbors, MN 55616.
