Cloquet, Two Harbors advance via no-hitters

Cloquet’s Chandler Beaupre and Two Harbors’ Madison Olson each threw five-inning no-hitters to lead their teams past the first round of the Section 7AA high school softball playoffs Tuesday.

Beaupre, a sophomore, struck out eight and walked none as Cloquet blanked Moose Lake-Willow River 13-0 in five innings at Braun Park. Beaupre also drove in three runs to lead the offensive attack for the Lumberjacks (10-9), who advance to play top-seeded Hermantown in Thursday’s quarterfinals at Cohasset.

Olson struck out 14 in a 10-0 home win over Crosby-Ironton, which sends the Agates (17-4) to a quarterfinal meeting against Proctor on Thursday in Cohasset.
