Girls' hockey team ends regular season

The Mariners girls’ hockey team finished their regular season with a 10-1 victory at the Superior Amateur Hockey Association rink over the Superior Spartans last Thursday.
Taylor Guzzo and Marina Carter led the Mariners as each of them scored two goals and added two assists. In the process ,Carter tied the Mariner single-season mark of scoring 32 goals in a season and Guzzo tied the mark of getting 32 assists in a season. The goal mark was set by Kirstin Sandstrom and the assist mark by Samantha Downey. Anna Carman added two goals and an assist and Carrie Palmer had a goal and two assists.
Carman made it 1-0 four minutes into the game with Carter and Guzzo scoring late in the period to make it 3-0 when it ended.
Katelyn Mergen cut it to 3-1 with a goal for the Spartans at 4:26 of the second period. The Mariners responded with two goals 37 seconds apart from Katelyn DeRoiser and Carman to up their lead to 5-1. Later in the period, Nicole Jaeger and Palmer scored 35 seconds apart to make it a score of 7-1. Carter and Guzzo each scored an unassisted goal late in the period to make it 9-1 after two in favor of the Mariners.
Rachel Dilley scored the final goal of the contest 14 seconds into the final period. Cassie Swanson picked up her 11th victory of the season with 22 saves. Sarah Runser finished with 18 stops for the Spartans.
The Mariners finished the regular season with a 16-9 record and played Princeton last night in a section 7A quarterfinal contest.
