After long deliberation, the John Beargrease Board of
Directors announced the cancellation of the 29th Running of the John Beargrease Seld Dog Marathon, according to a statement from Crystal Kilichowski, who is in charge of advertising and design for the sled dog marathon.
With the safety of the mushers, dogs and many volunteers at the forefront of the boards minds, poor snow conditions will not allow the race to be safely ran.
The Beargrease Board and members would like to thank its many sponsors, volunteers and mushers for their continued support of the race. As of this time the race had a fantastic field of racers who will be back next year to
compete on the North Shore trail, Kilichowski wrote.
While the race will not be running, the other race week
events will continue. A Gala and Silent Auction event will be held at 6 p.m. Jan. 27 at the Greysolon Ballroom. Followed by the ever popular cutest puppy contest at 11 a.m. Jan. 28 at Fitgerās.
The Beargrease Board would like to thank the community of Duluth and the entire North Shore for their support of this premier winter event.
