The Minnesota State Horticultural Society 8th District is offering three scholarships: $500, $250, and the $500 Sharon Wildung Memorial Scholarship to students in Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, and St. Louis Counties.

The MSHS offers the scholarship to students who have shown an interest in gardening and horticulture. By offering the scholarship, they hope to encourage kids to continue their gardening and horticulture activities throughout their life, either as a hobby or vocation.

Applicants must be graduating seniors, college students, non-traditional students, or second-time winners who will be attending a college or technical school in the fall. There is no restriction as to major, career choice, or school. The applicant must provide evidence of an interest and participation in horticultural/gardening activities.

Applications are due Feb. 15. The scholarship applicant must exhibit an interest in horticulture or gardening by writing a 200-500 word essay about their experiences. Applications are available at local high schools. Applications can also be requested from Alice Haglund by calling 218-290-3094.
