Dave Zappia, the owner of Dominics Downtown & Dave Zappia Tattoo in Duluth, has moved his shop to downtown Two Harbors. The shop, named Transcendent Tattoo, is located on Waterfront Drive between Hair Designs and Wells Fargo.
Zappia has been living in Two Harbors for the last three and a half years. He said that the move was inspired by the long weekly commute and his desire to spend more time with his family. He said that his hectic work schedule had become an issue as well. “That just became overwhelming after so many years of being that way. It was taking time away from my children and my serenity,” he said.
Zappia has worked full-time as a tattoo artist for 15 years and has done more than 33,000 tattoos. He was born and raised in upstate New York but later moved to Minnesota.
He said that he first became interested in tattoos because of his father, a tattoo artist going on forty years in the business. He said that he took a leap of faith into that profession. “I found that it’s where my heart’s at,” said Zappia.
For now, he will be the sole artist at the shop. Zappia said that he thinks Two Harbors is a good place to do business. “I think with the traffickers and the commuters that come through Two Harbors on an annual basis, it should be more than enough,” he said.
He is enthusiastic about becoming more involved in the community after he and his family are settled. He said that he’s an “outdoors buff” and is very excited about what Two Harbors can offer in that area. “I want my family and me to become involved in the parks and rec committees,” said Zappia.
